New Year…New Us

Okay, so another year has passed along with the “promise” to make my family a healthier one. The intent was there and I did try. I just didn’t keep up with my promise to stay on top of it and make it a “habit”. As the 2011 year came to a close the thought was on my mind more and more so maybe that is a good sign. I have started using more natural ways to try to keep my family healthy and it seems to have helped. It was the first time in 3 years that no one had the flu for Christmas, my 4-year-old only had one short bought with a cold triggering  his asthma and I have not yet had a bought with bronchitis…all good signs. So if the little that I have done made such an impact on our health already, then what type of impact would be caused from REALLY making a serious effort?

My goal is healthier eating with foods high in enzymes (see the previous blog for my reasoning on that) so that we can feel and be healthier. Being healthier equals a more active and energetic life (which will equal weight loss for hubby and myself) which will equal a happier and less doldrum family. Loving it already and we haven’t even started yet (I have to get the candy cane oreo type cookies out of the house first)!!

Here is my dilemma that I would love some input on from others: I need some really good and really tasty recipes for picky eaters. Thankfully there are only have 2 picky eaters in the house but I would like everyone to enjoy the food and the change. So if anyone has any recipes that don’t require some off the wall food and that doesn’t take too much time to make, please post them. Any suggestions on easy, quick snacks that are not processed would be great also.

A key to good health?

Let me preface this blog with, “I do not claim to be a medical
professional by any means”. Yet, I love the anatomy & physiological aspect
of the human body. I have been taking medical courses part-time, on and off for
X amount of years with various goals in mind and never really felt a direct and
complete pull in any one direction. My favorite courses were always Anatomy,
Physiology, Pathophysiology and Microbiology, along with bits and pieces of a
few others.

At this point and time in my life I am more focused on making my
family healthier and using more natural products to do that. With the
“simple health issues” that seem to pop up, we all go to the doctor,
get a “quick fix” and hope for the best. Unfortunately, one thing
usually leads to another or something else ends up popping up. Then, come to
find out (if we dig hard enough) it is the result of our “quick fix”
coming through as a side effect turned main effect.

I am not going to say doctors are bad and you should avoid them at
all costs. As a matter of fact, I believe that we should all have a doctor that
we can talk to and have a conversation with about our health concerns. Not a
doctor that talks TO us, rather WITH us! If you have a doctor that you are comfortable
with and you trust, then stick with them. If not, find one! It makes all the
difference in the world. Okay, enough of the doctor speech…

My point in the earlier paragraph was supposed to lead to
medicines (talk about focus!) and all the side effects. Why so many side
effects? What I am learning is this…and this is simply MY opinion based on
what I have read and heard…

#1) Many of the drugs given to us have turned “broad spectrum
drugs” by trial only. What I mean by this is that if you go in for a sinus
infection, most of the time you are given an antibiotic. Typically the
antibiotics are considered safe. Yet, sometimes you may be given an antibiotic
that was originally made for something completely different. My “for
instance” is covered by the link below. It is a clip that is just over 10
minutes long or you can read the dialogue below the video if you prefer. The
clip is about Class C antibiotics and how they have caused more grief than joy
in many people’s lives. Unfortunately, most doctors don’t realize that the
horrific side effects that come from these drugs are whats causing the
disabling ailments. Keep in mind that side effects from medicines can show up
many weeks to 18 months AFTER taking the medicine!

#2) Enzymes! This word keeps coming up in a lot of talks that I
have listened to recently. I plan to do more research but want to get this in
everyone’s head. Enzyme blockers…are not always good. Our bodies have the
ability to reproduce (and I am not talking about children here)! It can
reproduce our own DNA! When we get an infection, get sick, etc. or an enzyme
receptor gets blocked to where the enzyme cannot get to the proper receptor
that it needs to, and then mutation of our DNA begins. This then starts the
process of sickness, ailments, cancer, diseases, syndromes, etc. Yet we also
have the ability to fix this and reverse a lot of this…(here comes my all
natural plug) but it needs to be done with what we have been given naturally. There
are many enzymes that we should be taking that will help our vitamins and
minerals get to where they need to be in our body, but they need the proper
receptors to be open and not blocked.

Aller…achoo…gies!

As I have been pondering what to post on here for my first official blog posting, I have found it hard to concentrate between the sneezing and running for more and more tissue. My first reaction of course, was to grab my trusty over the counter allergy pill….still waiting for it to kick in almost an hour and a half later. Do I really need another one already? The directions state, “on every 4 to 6 hours”…ugh! So I took this pill and it’s not working. Then my mental lightbulb finally turns on. I have my essential oils sitting on my table calling my name.
Lavender happens to be a natural anti-histamine. Since it’s sitting there and I paid for it, guess I should utilize it. Rather than actually applying the lavender I choose to inhale deeply. Within 10 minutes the sneezing has subsided. Hmmm, guess there is something to this after all.
If you haven’t guessed, I am very new to using essential oils and trying natural ways to heal the body and ward off ailments. As many other people in today’s world, I love the convience of boxed/frozen/all-ready/all-powerful items that give us instant “what-ever-it-is-we need”. So, as it is too easy to turn to the many over the counter rememdies for every ailment imaginable, this blog will be about a struggling convert and what I am learning. I am not a doctor, nurse or anything other medical or professional other than a wife, mother, daughter, aunt, friend, researcher, learner and sharer. Please do not take anything I post on here as official medical advice. Take it as suggestions. Take it as “what has worked for someone else”. Take it for what it’s worth. Just please don’t take it as official medical advice.
